I have The Green Light Trust to thank for RIVN Woodcraft's existence. In 2017 they opened my eyes to the wonderful world of green woodworking and coppicing while attending one of their 'Woodland Minds' courses. From that moment on the tools of the trade have barely left my hands.
Coppicing, an age-old woodland management technique, provides the sustainable source of all of the timber I use in my designs. This practice allows us to work in harmony with nature, harvesting the sweet chestnut timber I use while increasing the health of the whole woodland and boosting biodiversity (National Trust - What is coppicing).
Whether it's carving a wooden spoon, making a bespoke gate, or building garden structures, it's all about embracing the imperfections; the knots, and twists in the grain and allowing them to shape the final design. This showcases the raw, rustic beauty that nature has to offer.
